WHEREAS, the future welfare of all wildlife (game and nongame) is dependent on adequate wildlife habitat and its proper management; and
WHEREAS, much of the better wildlife habitat, as well as the larger populations of wildlife, is found on private lands; and
WHEREAS, private landowners are presently receiving insufficient financial and other incentives and technical guidance for encouraging wildlife on their lands;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the National Wildlife Federation, in annual meeting assembled March 16-19, 1978, in Phoenix, Ariz., recognizes an immediate need for, and will continue to support efforts by the federal and state natural resources management agencies, Congress and state legislatures directed toward:
- increasing wildlife habitat, populations, and opportunities for consumptive and non-consumptive uses of wildlife;
- providing adequate financial incentives so that private landowners will be able to increase wildlife habitat and populations on their lands, as part of a multiple resource use profitable operation;
- providing private landowners adequate information on wildlife management principles and on-the-ground technical assistance;
- establish necessary laws and regulations to achieve these objectives.
